How Much Is COVID Still Impacting Michigan Businesses? See What MI Chamber Members Had to Say on This and Much More

Advocacy News – January 20, 2022

The preliminary results are in from last week’s MI Chamber Survey to tell new President & CEO Jim Holcomb what members need, want and what their biggest challenges are.

Thank you to all those who took the survey! It’s key to guiding our advocacy focus and helping us develop the programs and opportunities that best meet current or emerging needs.

Here are the top takeaways to date:

  1. Eight in 10 of you said COVID-19 was still having “a lot” (54%) or “somewhat” (26%) of an impact on your business/operations.
  2. Just over 1/3 of you said you’re using a hybrid model of in-person and remote work with 60% expecting this arrangement to become permanent.
  3. Finding and retaining talent/workers was identified as the “most pressing” issue for 66% of you, followed pretty evenly by: the rising costs of goods and services, COVID health/vaccines/testing and supply chain disruptions. Plus, 1/3 of you also noted affordable, reliable childcare, housing and transportation was a “somewhat pressing” issue too – the largest number in that category.
  4. The two MI Chamber services identified as the “strongest” or “medium” need or way to help your business right now were loud and clear with more than 90% of you reporting “Advocating on your behalf to state policymakers” and “Needing relevant information in real time.” That was followed by 70% reporting “Understanding employment law changes and compliance.”

For those of you who haven’t yet had a chance to take this quick and easy survey, there’s still two more days to do so. We need and want to hear from YOU!
