Hyper partisanship. Talking over each other. Insults. Intolerance. The current culture of communication in America can be polarizing and intense, spilling over into our workplaces.
The issues and potential solutions to them facing our state and nation generate a multitude of varying opinions. That’s not a bad thing — being part of a diverse, equitable and inclusive organization includes different and distinct beliefs. But how can businesses help keep things civil in turbulent and transitional times? And how do they make sure divergent opinions don’t disrupt the workplace and drive wedges and disrespectful behavior between co-workers?
Join the Michigan Chamber and Michigan Civility Project for this free virtual event Tuesday, Oct. 4, at 9 a.m. as talented (and polar opposite) journalists and media personalities, Nolan Finley and Stephen Henderson, help employers and their teams tackle this growing issue.
This “Diversity Equity & Inclusion (DEI) Dialogue — The Power of Perspective: Talk, Listen, Respect, Repeat.” session — just in time to help navigate Michigan’s general election season — will explore practical ways to instill civility and mutual respect for differences while reducing conflict and listening to gain understanding and engage in civil dialogue.
