HOW MICHIGAN ELECTIONS WORK

Elections are run locally by county, city and township clerks. Every part of the process follows clear step-by-step procedures, stringent oversight and team-based roles. Elections aren’t run from one central office – they’re run by our communities and neighbors.

THE CHALLENGE

More Michiganders are voting early, which means more days to staff. At the same time, there has been a 17% drop in the number of poll workers. Without enough support, voters may experience longer lines, confusion or delays.

Michigan needs thousands of more poll workers willing to serve to run upcoming elections in August and November 2026, during the early voting period and on Election Day.

THE SOLUTION

Help your community by signing up and volunteering to be an election inspector, more commonly known as a poll worker.

No previous election experience required – just a willingness to show up and serve your community.

Great for:
Working professionals | Community leaders | Retirees
College students | Teens ages 16-17

Serving as a poll worker can be the most impactful, nonpartisan way that any individual can engage in elections this year.
