Chamber Calls on Governor to Allow for Office Employees to Return to Work

February 25, 2021 – Advocacy News

Last week, the Michigan Chamber sent a letter to Governor Whitmer calling on her to allow offices to reopen.  The letter was also signed by the Detroit Regional Chamber, Lansing Regional Chamber of Commerce, Grand Rapids Chamber, the Michigan Manufacturers Association and the Small Business Association of Michigan.

The letter highlighted the downward trend in COVID-19 cases and positivity rates and called on the Governor to allow employees to return to work with safety protocols in place.  This letter is timely given the MIOSHA Emergency Rule (“Rule”) requiring employers to “create a policy prohibiting in-person work for employees to the extent that their work activities can feasibly be completed remotely” is set to expire on April 14—but could be extended for another six months without any legislative input or approval.   The letter is aimed at heading off an extension of the Rule and continuation of this one-size-fits-all mandate.

The Michigan Chamber will continue to be a strong advocate for fully and safely reopening all sectors of Michigan’s economy.  Please contact us with any questions at info@michamber.com.
