The Workforce Shortage — What’s New and What Can be Done?

Michigan — and the entire United States — are still facing severe labor shortages with too many open jobs and not enough workers to fill them.

But what are the contributing factors to the labor shortage, and how do businesses discover overlooked talent pools, work to reskill and upskill their current and future workforce, and attract and retain the best talent? The U.S. Chamber has taken a deep dive into this pressing issue, exploring how employers can and must deploy multi-faceted tactics to remain competitive. Read more here.

At the state level, the Michigan Chamber has embraced this multi-faceted approach as there unfortunately isn’t that one silver bullet for fixing the talent crunch.

EmergeSkilled — One Key Tool for Employers

One of these efforts is EmergeSkilled, a comprehensive, easy-to-use online platform to help employers connect with talent while building a long-term workforce pipeline for the future.

Launched as a new member and Michigan business benefit this summer, platform users have grown leaps and bounds with dozens of schools and hundreds of students joining weekly. To date, more than 200 Michigan employers have signed on and there are 19,000 student prospects from across the state.
