Yesterday, Governor Whitmer signed Executive Order (E.O.) 2020-77 extending the stay at home mandate until May 28 with one significant change. Effective May 11, the manufacturing industry will be allowed to return to work with specific operational modifications. All other restrictions on businesses and individuals remain.
In order to reopen, a manufacturer must comply with section 11k of the E.O. (see page 12). The E.O. includes regulations on daily health screenings, efforts to promote social distancing and promote sanitation.
In addition to these operational changes, manufacturers must train employees on various COVID-19 related information.
Manufacturing is a critical segment of our state’s economy and will be a driver of reenergizing Michigan’s economy. Unfortunately, many may initially struggle to comply with regulations imposed on them and might not be able to reopen as quickly as they would like.
We know that acquiring the necessary personal protection equipment (PPE) has proven difficult so the Michigan Chamber has created a FREE and easy to use PPE Directory guide to help you secure the materials you need.
