State Hosted Webinar for Businesses Looking to Hire Youth Workers

Advocacy News – June 9, 2022

As schools let out for summer, employers are still looking to hire more youth workers to fill their open positions. Hiring youth workers can be good for business – but employers must be smart, proactive and understand how the law treats minors differently than other employees.

Michigan Chamber members were invited to join the Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity’s Office of Employment and Training (LEO-E&T) this past May and earlier today, Thursday, June 9 from 10 to 11 a.m. for virtual events on hiring in- and out-of-school youth. This event, which coincides with Youth Employment Month, was intended to help employers:

  • Learn about work permits and youth worker safety issues
  • Discover young talent pools in the state
  • Get questions answered about hiring youth in Michigan
