State Accepting RFPs for Pilot Project to Help Employers Offer Affordable Child Care

Advocacy News – December 2, 2021

Affordable child care remains a significant barrier to employability.  The Michigan Women’s Commission (MWC) is seeking proposals to expand the MI Tri-Share Child Care Pilot Program, currently operating in three regions across the state, to additional regions.

The Tri-Share program is the first of its kind and offers a unique and innovative way to think about child care funding, accessibility and affordability.  Through Tri-Share, the cost of child care is shared equally by an eligible employee, their employer and the State of Michigan, with coordination provided regionally by a facilitator hub.

The idea behind Tri-Share is that is can help make child care more affordable to working families and, in turn, help reduce a significant barrier to employability.  Businesses elect to be in this pilot and have the opportunity to offer this benefit to their employees up to 250% of the Federal Poverty Level (FPL), a substantial increase from our current levels of 150%.

Learn more about Tri-Share and how to apply in MWC’s Request for Proposals (RFP). Proposals are due December 22, 2021. More information about Tri-Share can also be found here: https://www.michigan.gov/Tri-Share.
