Due to the effects of COVID-19 and an immensely large generation phasing out of the workplace, Michigan employers, and the country at large, have been scrambling to fill countless open positions. But not all is lost as we look at an incoming generation of employees with a desire to excel, learn and grow.
Generation Z, also known as “Zoomers,” exploded into employment at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, bringing with them a fresh perspective and creative ideas for the future of companies in every industry. Retaining and attracting this generation is of utmost importance for all businesses as the workforce evolves and modernizes, and the Michigan Chamber of Commerce is here to help that company recruitment process.
As a part of the Michigan Chamber’s Workforce Solutions Series, the first iteration of the series included a presentation by Amy Keely, CEO and Creative Director of HunterHennessy Consulting, on understanding the values and expectations of the incoming wave of workers and how to ensure those employees are valued. The on-demand webinar, which can be found here, emphasizes that employers have a unique opportunity to capitalize on retaining an entrepreneurial and socially-conscious generation.
One example of this shift in generational values can be found in a Zoomer’s feedback on company loyalty: “I could only imagine myself feeling loyal to a company that proves willing and capable to change and grow, and in which it feels that my perspective can have a direct impact on said growth.”
Be sure to watch the webinar to ensure your company is well-positioned to thrive in a new-modernized workforce. For questions or more information, contact Tammy Zdunic at TZdunic@michamber.com.
