As part of the Michigan Chamber’s ongoing campaign to safely reopen Michigan and get state government’s decision-making process out from behind closed doors and back into public view, the following agenda is designed to provide a path to business recovery from COVID-19.
Restarting Michigan: COVID-19 Relief and Recovery Agenda
While we are putting forward this plan to assist in business and economic recovery from COVID-19, we know we cannot do it alone. We be encouraging the Legislature and Governor to work together to begin this economic recovery and encouraging them to focus on the five policy areas outlined in this agenda, including:
- Liability protections
- Taxpayer protections and relief
- Regulatory relief
- Budgeting
- And investing in Michigan
The agenda includes short and long-term recommendations and most, if not all, require action on the part of the Michigan Legislature.
The recommendations in this agenda reflect the feedback we’ve received from thousands of emails and phone calls we’ve received from Chamber members across all industries and business sectors in the last month, as well as the feedback from the over 2,100 businesses that participated in our “Restarting Michigan” survey.
We know the economic impact of the COVID-19 crisis will have long-term consequences, but the policy recommendations contained in this agenda will assist businesses in their efforts to provide safe workplaces and spaces for their employees and customers and create more certainty and clarity for those looking to reopen or continue to ramp up.
