Advocacy News – March 18, 2021
The recently announced Reopen Michigan Safely coalition is growing and making an impact.
Today’s Detroit News editorial, “End Whitmer’s prohibition on office work,” features our work to #EndTheOfficeBan.
While it’s encouraging that Gov. Whitmer is responding to our coalition message, rather than move to revisit or loosen the MIOSHA Emergency Rules (“Rules”) prohibiting most in-person work, the administration has announced the creation of a workgroup and standard advisory committees to study the issue. Furthermore, it is concerning that the workgroup making recommendations on whether immediate changes to the Rules are needed does not currently have any small business representation.
If you agree that now is the time to continue to ease the COVID restriction on businesses, including loosening the prohibition on in-person work, it’s important for you to make your voice heard. Here are two ways you can get involved today:
1. Join the coalition or sign the petition at www.reopenmichigansafely.com.
- Contact the Governor’s office to make your voice heard on why it’s time to start lifting the restrictions and allowing businesses to return employees to the office…safely. The Governor’s constituent services hotline phone number is 517-335-7858.
