New MI Chamber 2021-22 Job Provider Index Provides Key Election Resource for Business Leaders, Voters

Advocacy News – June 9, 2022

The highly anticipated Job Provider Index – the Michigan Chamber’s 2021-22 Legislative Voting Record and Competitiveness Scored – is now out and available.

This biennial voting guide tracked 14 roll call votes in the House and 14 roll call votes in the Senate throughout this year and last on the Chamber’s top legislative priorities representing various  business climate issues, including economic development, environment, health care, human resources, infrastructure, regulatory reform, and tax policy.

Any current legislator running for reelection to the same office who scored 75% or better is eligible for this “earned endorsement” subject to approval by the Michigan Chamber’s PAC Board of Directors.  This year, that equated to 46 incumbent lawmakers – 33 state representatives and 13 state senators – from both parties and chambers.

Any lawmaker (18 this legislative session cycle) scoring a perfect 100% earned the Chamber’s special designation as a “Champion of Free Enterprise.”  Ten of these senators and state representative are seeking re-election in 2022.

As Jim Holcomb, president & CEO, noted, this guide is designed to be a helpful resource to business leaders and voters.

“We are pleased that, in total, 59 House and 21 Senate lawmakers from both sides of the aisle consistently voted in support of jobs, taxpayers and economic growth,” Holcomb said. “That’s the kind of pragmatic policy and problem solving that helps build a robust, resilient business climate and a stronger Michigan that works for our businesses, communities and families.”

Check out the new Job Provider Index today and see where your lawmaker stood. Plus, here’s the news release and full list of these earned endorsements.

The Michigan Chamber will be making additional endorsements in the coming days for governor, Congressional and Michigan Supreme Court races as well as select, targeted Michigan House and Senate open seats and challenge races.
