This week, the Michigan House and Senate approved spending $2.87 billion in mostly Federal funds to provide an additional $300 per week in bonus unemployment. The State leveraged $9 million in state General Fund revenues to draw down $2.887 billion from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). The appropriation will allow for an estimated nine weeks of benefit payments from Aug. 1 through Sept. 30.
The $300 in additional unemployment benefits will work similarly to the previously awarded $600 in bonus unemployment. The weekly supplemental benefit amount will be awarded on top of state unemployment which is currently maxed out at $362 per week.
