Michigan and Ontario Chambers urge swift renewal as USMCA/CUSMA review approaches

Advocacy News – June 30, 2026

TORONTO/LANSING, Mich – June 30, 2026) – With the mandatory review of the Canada–United States–Mexico Agreement (CUSMA/USMCA) set to begin tomorrow, the Ontario Chamber of Commerce and the Michigan Chamber of Commerce today issued the following joint statement:

“As of tomorrow, the future of North America’s defining trade agreement is formally on the table. The businesses, workers, and communities on both sides of our border are counting on a swift renewal that keeps North America open for business.

“Ontario and Michigan share one of the most deeply integrated economic relationships in the world. Our manufacturers, farmers, energy producers, innovators, and countless small businesses are bound together by supply chains that cross the border every day. That integration is one of North America’s greatest competitive advantages.

“Our message to leaders in all three countries is straightforward: move quickly, preserve what works, and modernize where it counts. Businesses are not asking for perfection; they are asking for predictability. Time matters. Every unnecessary delay creates uncertainty that can defer investment decisions, slow hiring, and diminish our shared competitiveness.

“CUSMA has made North America stronger. A timely review should make it stronger still.”
