Advocacy News – July 2, 2026
What’s happening: As global trade faces heightened uncertainty and competition, export credit remains an important tool for American companies competing in international markets. The Michigan Chamber joined a coalition led by the U.S. Chamber urging Congress to approve a long-term reauthorization of the Export-Import Bank of the United States (EXIM).
- By the numbers: In 2025 alone, EXIM authorized $8.7 billion in transactions supporting approximately 40,000 American jobs, with more than 87% of those transactions directly benefiting small businesses.
Why it matters: With EXIM’s authorization set to expire later this year, long-term reauthorization would provide Michigan and American businesses with greater certainty to plan, invest and compete in global markets while signaling continued U.S. commitment to export competitiveness.
What we’re watching: The coalition is urging Congress to:
- Reauthorize EXIM for 10 years to provide long-term certainty and reduce disruptions caused by Board quorum lapses.
- Reform and strengthen EXIM’s China and Transformational Exports Program (CTEP).
- Revise EXIM’s default risk cap to better support strategic technologies and industries while maintaining appropriate oversight and safeguards.
What’s next: We’ll continue urging Congress to act promptly to ensure our businesses have the tools they need to compete successfully in the global marketplace.
