Legislative leaders and the Governor appear to be in general agreement on an $85 million supplemental appropriation bill that will restore funding for the Pure Michigan marketing campaign and the Going PRO jobs training program. Additionally, the supplemental would contain funding for Governor Whitmer’s Michigan Reconnect program.
Modeled on a highly successful bipartisan program in Tennessee, Michigan Reconnect is an economic-growth/workforce development program that would provide a tuition-free pathway to an in-demand industry certificate or associate degree for Michigan adults 25 and older.
The announcement of a tentative deal on a supplemental budget bill is great news for Chamber members. After pressing hard for action on restoring Pure Michigan and Going PRO funding, the Chamber is pleased to see this positive development. The Chamber is also supportive of Governor Whitmer’s Michigan Reconnect program and believes this proposal will help alleviate workforce challenges.
