Advocacy News – Sept. 28, 2023
This week, the Michigan House Committee on Tax Policy heard additional testimony from stakeholders regarding the impact of the Land Value Tax (LVT), House Bills 4966-4970. The committee – after much back and forth – ultimately passed the bills with the 7 Democratic committee members voting YES, zero NO votes, and the five Republican committee members passing.
The bill package ultimately included a substitute making the proposal Detroit-specific rather than applicable to all Michigan municipalities. It is likely the bill will be considered for a vote by the full Michigan House within the upcoming weeks.
