Key takeaways from MI ATHENA’s Mastering Your Mindset

What happened? Michigan ATHENA, the Michigan Chamber Foundation’s women leadership organization, kicked-off their 2024 programming with a virtual, free keynote presentation, “Mastering Your Mindset,” by renowned speaker Topsie VandenBosch. Psychotherapist turned mindset coach, Topsie helped viewers construct a mindset that fosters strength and confidence. Topsie’s trick? It starts with you and your lived experiences.

Zoom in: Here are Topsie’s five key tips to help you develop a mindset that works for you, rather than against you:

  1. Do not discount your successes. We too often do not take the time to celebrate our successes, which leads to always wanting more and never feeling satisfied. Celebrate!
  1. Develop internal gratification. Relying on others for praise creates a habit of never feeling good enough, despite best efforts. Working on self-talk that acknowledges your achievements, rather than waiting on others to recognize it for you!
  1. Release your expectation of timeline! Sometimes undue stress is created when we set a timeline for a goal that we cannot achieve or is impacted by things outside of our control. What is meant for you will come to you – don’t stress.
  1. You have a low tolerance for success. Start to think of success as something meant for you to achieve, elevating your power, and freeing you from unnecessary expectations.
  1. Unhealthy relationship with rejection. Rejection can be a gift. It places you and keeps you on the unique path that was meant for you. Do not view rejection as an indication of your abilities, but rather an opportunity!
