Advocacy News – Jan. 30, 2025
What’s new: Speaker Matt Hall’s Office announced committee assignments for the two-year legislative cycle as the Legislative Chamber gears up for what is likely to be a policy heavy term.
- Policy committees will be focusing on standing legislative issues across a number of policy arenas over the course of the full term, while the Oversight Committee is likely to have a more specific scope of function and schedule.
Worth noting: The Appropriations Committee, focused on the state fiscal budget, typically sees most of its activity in the late-spring, early-summer timeframe, although it is expected budget negotiations will take longer than in recent history and may go through the summer.
What’s next: The MI Chamber team is in the process of engaging with all members in relevant committees to educate them on Chamber policy priorities and advocate on behalf of Michigan’s business community.
