Advocacy News – Oct. 16, 2025
What’s new: Michigan employers can now apply for the Going PRO Talent Fund — a state grant program that helps businesses upskill and train current or new employees.
Why it matters: The MI Chamber-backed program is one of Michigan’s strongest workforce-readiness tools. But with reduced state funding, this year’s grants are in high demand and will be quite competitive.
- Two funding rounds are planned — the first is open now, the next in Spring 2026.
Key Dates:
- The first application window opened Oct. 14 and closes at 5 p.m. EDT Thursday, Oct. 30.
How it works: The Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity (LEO) reimburses employers — through local Michigan Works! Agencies across the state — between $2,000 and $3,500 per employee (based on employment type) for training that meets a demonstrated business need and leads to an industry-recognized credential.
