Budget Supplemental Sent to Governor: GoingPRO, Pure Michigan Partially Funded

The State House and Senate last week agreed on a supplemental budget. The bill is headed to the Governor’s desk where she is expected to approve the spending. The budget partially restored funding for the popular Pure Michigan campaign and the GoingPRO Training Fund and allocates new money for the Coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak and the Governor’s proposed Michigan Reconnect talent program.

The budget, which the Governor is expected to sign, includes:

  • $16 million for the Pure Michigan campaign;
  • $35 million for the Michigan Reconnect job training program, which is focused on upskilling non-traditional students;
  • $15 million for the GoingPRO program, which provides short-term training dollars to employers to train and retain top talent; and
  • $25 million in COVID-19 response money.

Although funding for Pure Michigan and GoingPRO are below what the Chamber had advocated for ($36 million and $37.26 respectively), we support the supplemental budget and full funding for the programs in Fiscal Year 2021, which begins on Oct. 1, 2020.
