Advocacy News – May 28, 2026
What’s happening: Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan and Michigan Medicine reached a new agreement that preserves in-network access across Michigan Medicine’s hospitals, clinics and physician network in and around Ann Arbor.
Why it matters: Employers across Michigan continue to tell us healthcare affordability and rising insurance costs remain among their biggest business challenges. Double-digit premium increases are forcing many businesses to make difficult decisions impacting hiring, wages, benefits, and long-term growth.
What we’re saying: We’re encouraged both sides reached an agreement that avoids disruptions in care while emphasizing value, efficiency and greater cost restraint. While this is welcome news for employers, employees and families who rely on Michigan Medicine, the broader challenge of healthcare affordability remains.
- The Michigan Chamber will continue advocating for practical policies and long-term solutions that improve affordability, predictability and access – and that stem further double-digit premium increases – increases we know employers can no longer sustain.
The bottom line: Businesses, workers, insurers, and providers all benefit from a more affordable, stable and sustainable healthcare system. Contact Dan Papineau with Qs.
