What’s new: As U.S.-Canada trade tensions continue, the Michigan Smart Trade Alliance (MISTA) has launched a new advertising campaign highlighting the impact of tariffs and continued uncertainty on Michigan businesses.
The campaign features Mary Buchzeiger, CEO of Michigan-based global automotive supplier Lucerne International, who describes rising costs, disrupted investment and the challenges businesses face in planning, hiring and growing amid an escalating traded dispute.
Why it matters: As we reported last week, Michigan has an outsized stake in what happens next. Our deeply integrated U.S.-Canada supply chains – particularly in automotive and advanced manufacturing – mean tariffs and counter-tariffs can ripple through businesses on both sides of the border.
Our message: As a member of MISTA, the Michigan Chamber is calling for greater stability and predictability in U.S. trade policy and a durable resolution that addresses legitimate trade concerns while protecting the North American trading relationships Michigan businesses rely on.
That includes a strong, effective USMCA and continued efforts by U.S. and Canadian leaders to resolve disputes, reduce uncertainty and provide employers the confidence to compete, invest and plan for the future.
