Last week, the Michigan Chamber’s Director of Tax Policy and Regulatory Affairs, Dan Papineau, provided an update on several pieces of tax policy legislation to the Council on State Taxation (COST), in Washington, D.C. The Michigan Chamber frequently acts as the eyes and ears for COST, feeding up information and providing periodic updates on their weekly, nationwide conference calls.
Tax policy legislation discussed on the call included:
- Proposed increase in Michigan’s Corporate Income Tax from 6% to 8.5%
- Proposed doubling of the tax on passthrough companies
- Per-mile road tax for commercial vehicles
- Bridge tolling for commercial vehicles
- Proposal to enact a graduated state income tax
- Legislation to modify Michigan Sales and Use Tax laws pertaining to the US Supreme Court’s ruling regarding marketplace facilitators.
More information on these and other tax policy legislation is available on the Chamber’s website under Key Issues & Bills.
