Jim serves as president and CEO of the Michigan Chamber of Commerce, leading the organization’s mission to help protect, connect and strengthen Michigan businesses while advancing policies that foster a strong economy, vibrant communities and opportunities for all Michiganders.

Since joining the Chamber in 2008, Jim has held several key roles, including executive vice president and general counsel, overseeing the Business Advocacy Team and political action activities. He also directed the Michigan Chamber Litigation Center, a nonprofit organization dedicated to championing important precedent issues before the highest courts in Michigan and nationally. Under his guidance, the Chamber consistently earns recognition as the state’s “Most Effective Membership Organization” in surveys of state policymakers and capitol insiders.

A lawyer and former legislative staffer, Jim has worked in and around Lansing’s policy and political circles for more than three decades. His experience spans senior positions in both the Michigan House and Senate, including serving as Chief of Staff to former Speaker of the House Craig DeRoche. In between stints of public service, Jim practiced law with a major Michigan firm where he focused on government relations, regulatory compliance and civil litigation.

Jim holds a bachelor’s degree from Central Michigan University, a law degree from Thomas Cooley Law School and an MBA from the University of Michigan.
