WHAT IS A CERTIFICATE OF ORIGIN?
A Certificate of Origin (CO) is an important international trade document attesting that goods in a particular export shipment are wholly obtained, produced, manufactured or processed in a particular country. In order to be valid, the certificate of origin must be signed by the exporter, and countersigned by a chamber of commerce.
WHY DO I NEED ONE?
The commodity being exported and its destination determine if the CO is required. The purpose of the CO is to authenticate the country of origin of the merchandise being shipped (where it was made). It all depends on the rules and regulations of the country where the shipment is going.
HOW DOES THE MI CHAMBER CERTIFYMICHIGAN PROGRAM WORK?
- First, complete the enrollment form and letter of indemnity in Adobe Acrobat, print it, sign it and fax/email it.
- Once your form is processed, you will receive login information for the online portal.
- Then, log in to complete a new Certificate of Origin application whenever you need one.
The MI Chamber COO team processes all COOs Monday-Thursday from 8 a.m.-1 pm. Any COO submitted after 1 p.m. Monday-Thursday or after 1 p.m. Friday will be processed the following business day, with Friday submissions certified Monday. Some things to note:
On Fridays, we process “Do It Yourself” (DIY) COO’s from 8 a.m.-1 p.m. We do not process “Chamber Print” COO’s (also referred to as “wet stamp” COO’s) on Fridays.
Any “Chamber Print” COO’s submitted on Thursday after 1 p.m. will be processed Friday morning.
Any “Chamber Print” COO’s submitted on Friday will be processed the following Monday.
Any COO’s submitted on a holiday will be processed the next business day.
Lastly, You will receive an email when your CO application has been processed at which time you can log in to print it off or resubmit it if you had missing information.

WHAT IS THE COST?
- Chamber members: $25 (USD) for each COO, plus an additional $25 for certifying attachments individually.
- Non-chamber members: $50 (USD) for each COO, plus an additional $50 for certifying attachments individually.
- Additional shipping and handling fees apply if you select “Chamber Print” certifications.

Refund Policy: The MI Chamber refund policy is subject to change anytime. We reserve the right to limit or decline returns or exchanges regardless of whether you have a receipt. In the event of an error by the MI Chamber, the customer has the option to choose a refund or exchange for the specific document. Requests for refund or exchange must be made within three business days of document approval. In the event of customer error, there are no refunds.
