From Classroom to Career: A Smarter Start for Michigan Students

THE CHALLENGE

The nature of work is evolving rapidly in response to AI, shifting economic demands and newly emerging industries.

Across Michigan, employers are looking for more than foundational academic credentials in candidates. They’re eager to find talent who can think critically, solve problems, communicate effectively, and adapt quickly.


A SOLUTION
 

A new approach called AP Career Kickstart aims to address this need.

The program was developed by the College Board in partnership with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce to expand the trusted college-level rigor of Advanced Placement coursework with industry relevance, building professional career skills and acclerating high schools students on paths with in-demand careers. 

The first courses include: 

  • AP Business/Personal Finance
  • AP Cybersecurity 

More courses are expected to follow. 

Michigan has an opportunity to lead in how we prepare students for the workforce. By starting earlier and connecting classroom learning with career skills, programs like AP Career Kickstart can help more students graduate ready to succeed – and help employers find the talent they need to grow.
