MY BUSINESS ... MYSELF
Anyone who lives in Michigan has probably heard about - or hopped aboard - Shepler's Mackinac Island Ferry at some point. What some people may not know is that Shepler's is a family-owned business that has been in operation for over 70 years. My father started the business in 1945 and I took over the helm in 1988 after his passing. We currently operate six specially-designed Hydroplane ferries with highly-trained staff.
The tax burden placed on our industry is a huge problem along with the continued updates by the US Coast Guard, with changes in their requirements for ferry operations and equipment.
Michigan is a beautiful state, literally surrounded by four fresh water Great Lakes. The history of the Mackinac and Straits area in general is interesting and important to the development of the tourist industry in Michigan.
WHY I BELONG TO THE CHAMBER
The Michigan Chamber plays a vital role in promoting Michigan and developing worldwide awareness of what the state has to offer. It also gives all its members a voice in local, state and federal government activities that would not be available on an individual basis.
