Miller Canfield is a global law firm which has been head-quartered in Detroit since its inception in 1852. We have 225 attorneys and six offices in Michigan (Ann Arbor, Detroit, Grand Rapids, Kalamazoo, Lansing and Troy); one in Chicago, New York and Tampa; and locations in Canada, China, Mexico, and Poland. I specialize in labor and employment law, with additional focus on: litigation; higher education; administrative law; constitutional law; government procurement; and election law/ballot questions.
The business climate for lawyers is extremely competitive, just like it is for our clients. We are constantly working harder to serve our clients even better, and to do so while we remain mindful of their economic realities, just like they have to provide goods and services in a competitive marketplace.
Labor and employment law permeates every business. One of the big challenges employers have faced in recent years, and will continue to face, is technology and how it is ever-changing and impacting how employees work. For example, mobile technology and remote working arrangements have blurred the lines between when work starts and ends. And artificial intelligence, as it develops, will undoubtedly present new challenges and opportunity for employers. Every workplace will be impacted differently.
WHY I BELONG TO THE CHAMBER
Membership in the Michigan Chamber is a great way to connect with business leaders in Michigan, and to stay abreast of important issues that directly impact Michigan businesses from across a broad spectrum.
WHY I SERVE ON A CHAMBER POLICY ADVISORY COMMITTEE
I have served on, and currently chair, the Health and Human Resources Policy Advisory Committee for the opportunity to be involved in discussions that are at the forefront of what is important to Michigan businesses, and employers specifically.
