The Michigan Legislature is quickly moving a small package of bills to extend the filing deadline for those who may have missed the February deadline for claiming their Personal Property Tax exemption - to May 31, 2016.
Since 2016 is the first official year for Michigan’s new PPT exemption, many companies are still not fully aware of the exemptions available to them. In light of this, the Snyder Administration and the Legislature are moving on bills to provide this one-time extension. The bills have passed the Michigan House and are scheduled for a Senate Finance committee hearing tomorrow. We expect the bills to move to the Governor’s desk quickly.
Even if you have already filed, there are a few positive improvements to definitions contained in the PPT law that we’d suggest you review if you are a manufacturer. For more information, or for a progress report on these bills, please contact Tricia Kinley at email@example.com.
