What does leadership mean to you?
A leader is someone that stands up for what is right and helps others get there too. A true leader seeks to enrich others’ lives by pouring kindness, stability, strength, meekness and integrity into each and every person they come into contact with. A leader helps others reach their full potential.
Who has influenced your idea of leadership?
My parents have influenced my idea of leadership. Being a woman and seeing my mom get up super early to get ready for work, make our lunches, pray with my dad and drive us to school, go to work to build this company, then always pick us up from school. Many times we’d then go back to work before we went home where she'd cook dinner and had a hot meal ready for us always. She truly built the culture of our company in teaching me how we treat our vendors, our clients and employees. She leads with grace integrity and elegance. Till this day, people tell me about the experience they have had with my mom in the way she treated them when they worked with us or when she sold them their diamond ring or even when they were working at the grocery store and mom would come in to buy groceries. I pray I build the same legacy in leadership that she has.
Why do we need more women in leadership roles? What do they add to the table?
We need more women leaders because women bring in the rare element of multi-tasking. Women are fully capable of running a household and running a business all the while nurturing, teaching and taking care of many people in their lives and performing at the highest level.
How are you leading in your career/community?
The jewelry business has traditionally been a male dominated industry; however, I, like my mother before me, decided to take on the challenge of succeeding in a male dominated field such as creating, custom making, buying and selling fine jewelry. Women creating jewelry for women has been a welcomed addition to our industry and a welcomed challenge. My mother and I are continuously contributing to local fundraising, and volunteering our time with organizations and programs such as the Great Lakes Christian college, the Delta Charter Township Award Ceremony, Michigan State University, Sparrow and many others. We also volunteer our time serving women at women's prisons over seas.
