Executive Order Addresses Drastic Need for Childcare

Late last night, Governor Whitmer signed Executive Order 2020-16 which dramatically relaxed regulations on childcare centers to meet the spike in need for childcare.  The Order can be found here.

With schools across Michigan closed, employees have had a difficult time finding childcare. This has become especially critical for employees providing essential services. Effective immediately, strict compliance of the Child Care Organizations Act is suspended.

Under the order, licensing requirements are relaxed and allows employers and schools to establish and maintain disaster relief childcare centers as long as they comply with any rules and orders governing disaster relief childcare centers. A disaster relief childcare center must perform a health evaluation of all individuals who enter the center each time the individual seeks to enter the center and must deny entry to those individuals who do not meet the evaluation criteria.
