“Coalition to Close Lansing Loopholes” Targeting Michigan Businesses

October 14, 2019

A newly-formed ballot committee led by the liberal advocacy group, Progress Michigan, held a news conference last week where it tried to generate support for a massive tax increase by misrepresenting the contributions of Michigan's job providers.

In a wild attempt to mislead the public and build support for increasing taxes on businesses, the committee, called "Coalition to Close Lansing Loopholes," falsely claimed that businesses in Michigan pay "only 4%" of all taxes collected. In actuality, Michigan businesses pay 34% of all taxes collected by state and local governments.

Spreading false inaccuracies about Michigan businesses is unacceptable. The Michigan Chamber will continue to push back on any misinformation campaign that looks to increase the tax burden on job providers in our state.
