Michigan Chamber Applauds Passage of Landmark Freedom to Work Legislation; Anticipates Positive Results for Michigan

Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2012 - The Michigan Chamber of Commerce today expressed appreciation to Governor Rick Snyder, Senate Majority Leader Randy Richardville, House Speaker Jase Bolger and pro-reform lawmakers for approval of Freedom to Work legislation that would prohibit employees in Michigan from being forced to join a union or provide financial support to a union as a condition of employment.

Freedom to Work Bills Approved by State Legislature

Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2012 - Good news! Earlier today the Michigan House voted by a margin of 58-52 to send landmark Freedom to Work legislation (Senate Bill 116 and House Bill 4003) to Governor Snyder for his signature. This legislation will make Michigan the nation’s 24th Freedom to Work state and better position us to attract and retain good paying jobs and further improve our economic competitiveness.

Friday, Dec. 7, 2012 - After a day full of angry protests by union members and liberal activists that included eight arrests and hours of debate, the State House and Michigan Senate last evening both passed bills (Senate Bill 116 and House Bill 4003) to advance Freedom to Work legislation.

Monday, Dec. 3, 2012 - The Michigan Chamber of Commerce announced today its support for passage of “freedom to work” legislation that would prohibit employees in Michigan from being forced to join a union or provide financial support to a union as a condition of employment. Currently, Michigan employees can be forced toparticipate in a union and are required to contribute financially or face termination.
