ID Theft On the Job

June 3, 2014

Every day you read or hear another story about ID theft. You also see and hear all the commercials for services that claim they will protect you. Regardless of what you believe and/or purchase, you cannot protect yourself 100%. When it comes to the employment process, you can learn if an applicant may be involved in some type of ID theft issue.

The Laborchex CrimechexPlus service, in addition to checking sex offender status nationwide and millions of criminal records in state, federal, and international databases, will give you every name and address attached to the applicant based on use of their SSN. You could learn that someone is using another person’s SSN or a fake name, or is sharing a SSN with someone. You can use the addresses on our report and compare them with the information provided on the job application. After all, the applicant claims he has lived/worked in your state forever, but addresses all over the country show up on the report. There could be legitimate reasons for this, but it could also mean the applicant is trying to hide something.
