Job providers that missed the deadline to file for a personal property tax exemption in 2017 will get a second bite at the apple under legislation supported by the Michigan Chamber. This one-time filing extension will give employers until May 31, 2017 to file exemption affidavits with local assessors on qualified new and previously existing personal property.
Senate Bill 359 went from introduction to becoming law in two weeks time. Passage of this legislation is good news for employers who missed the deadline or had their local assessor drop the ball, as these exemptions can be sizeable and impact a company’s bottom line.
